This is something ALL guys need to see, I got this from the Rebelution.com, and believe it or not it was put together by a group of teenage girls. It is hard to find a good role model in society, especially for guys. Here are the basic guidelines that can help us be Real Men, in the Godly sense. You can look them over, memorize them, or do what ever you want. I have them posted on my wall in my room. But don’t just read this and walk away, we need more men like this, guys who are willing to step over the low expectations our society provides us. Girls, if you are reading this, that’s okay, it is not off limits. :) if yall want to add anything, post it as a comment. We do want to know what you think.

The 24 traits of a Real Man

A Real Man...

…can look a girl straight in the eye without communicating any impurity.

(Prov. 20:11) Even a child is known by his actions, by whether his conduct is pure and right.

 

…shows by his actions that he loves children.

(Matt. 19:13-14) Then little children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them.

 

…understands and lives according to the basic purposes for which he was created: to worship, honor, and serve God.

(Rom. 12:1-2) Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will.

 

…doesn’t put others down with his actions, attitude, words, or his strength. But on the contrary, he affirms and builds others up.

(Prov. 15:4) The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit. (Eph. 4:29) Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

 

…values and carefully handles the scriptures.

(2 Tim. 2:15) Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

 

…has no desire to be gross in order to impress other men. He doesn’t burp, swear, or tell disgusting stories.

(Prov. 13:5) The righteous hate what is false, but the wicked bring shame and disgrace.(Eph. 5:4) Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.

 

…doesn’t try to prove himself but is simply confident as he walks in the fear of the Lord. *my favorite*

(Prov. 14:26-27) He who fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge. The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death.

 

…is pleasant and expresses joy rather than feeling that it’s masculine to be sullen.

(Prov. 21:29) A wicked man puts up a bold front, but an upright man gives thought to his ways. (1 Thess. 5:16) Be joyful always;

 

…isn’t ashamed to identify himself with his family.

(Eph. 6:2-3) “Honor your father and mother”-which is the first commandment with a promise- “that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

 

…not only respects but appreciates a young lady’s purity and innocence. In our culture innocence isn’t retained by accident.

(2 Cor. 11:2-3) I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him. But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

 

…isn’t embarrassed to worship God and pray in a group setting.

(Mark 8:38) If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

 

…doesn’t blame others for his own problems but embraces responsibility.

(Prov. 12:27) The lazy man does not roast his game, but the diligent man prizes his possessions.

 

…is kind because, “What is desirable in man is his kindness”

(Prov. 19:22) The desire of a man [is] his kindness: and a poor man [is] better than a liar.

 

…understands the value of work and is financially responsible.

(Col. 3:23-24) And whatsoever ye do, do [it] heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. (2 Thess. 3:10-12) For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. (Luke 16:10-11) He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.

 

…treats his sisters and mother with as much respect as he would treat a prospective wife.

(Matt. 25:21) His lord said unto him, Well done, [thou] good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

 

…can accept correction.

(Prov. 12:1) Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid. (Prov. 29:1) A man who remains stiff-necked after many rebukes will suddenly be destroyed–without remedy.

 

…is wise, yet humble.

(Prov. 2:1-10) My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. Then you will understand what is right and just and fair–every good path. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. (1 Pet. 5:5) Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (Rom. 12:16) Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

 

…doesn’t pride himself on being knowledgeable in the sinful ways of the world.

(1 John 2:15-16) Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world-the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does-comes not from the Father but from the world. (James 4:4) You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. (Phil. 4:8) Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.

 

…doesn’t have long hair because it is a “woman’s glory.” A real man doesn’t desire to adorn himself with a woman’s glory.

(1 Cor. 11:14-16) Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice-nor do the churches of God.

 

…expresses himself with intelligent words rather than using “street talk”.

(Prov. 17:20) A man of perverse heart does not prosper; he whose tongue is deceitful falls into trouble. (Titus 2:6-8) Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us. (1 Pet. 4:11) If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. (Eph. 4:29) Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

 

…is a gentleman. He is polite and shows women honor in everyday things such as opening doors, etc.

(1 Pet. 3:7) Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

 

…is mature in his emotions and his expressions of them. He can deal with the trials of life logically, with wisdom, not on a basis of emotional instability.

(Prov. 14:29) A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man displays folly. (Prov. 17:27) A man of knowledge uses words with restraint, and a man of understanding is even-tempered. (Prov. 12:18) Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

 

…takes leadership in a self-sacrificing way.

(Eph. 5:25-28) Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.

 

…values his purity as much as he values a young lady’s purity. He is not ashamed to live and act differently from the world in order to guard himself.

(1 Thess. 4:1-8) Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit. (Ecc. 7:26) I find more bitter than death the woman who is a snare, whose heart is a trap and whose hands are chains. The man who pleases God will escape her, but the sinner she will ensnare.

    Yes! Gives me hopes that there may still be great Godly men out there who live for the Truth! Thank you Nathan. Many of these can be turned around and use by us ladies too.
